GEORGE KEYT FOUNDATION in Colombo, Sri Lanka
On a visit to Colombo in April 2014, I had the privilege of meeting up with Cedric de Silva, Chairman of the George Keyt Foundation and his wife Sita, at their residence.
Thank you to Cedric and Sita for the welcome given to me, a total stranger who knocked on their door unannounced and for the time spent with me imparting a wealth of knowledge on Keyt, with whom they were very closely associated and knew intimately.
Thank you also for the words of encouragement to continue my work in the style of Keyt, drawing from the inspiration from the great Artist himself, enabling me to further develop myself as a painter.
As a gesture of gratitude and thanks, a contribution will be made to the George Keyt Foundation from the sale of my paintings, to help the Foundation achieve its set objectives, in honour of George Keyt.
SAPUMAL FOUNDATION in Colombo, Sri Lanka
On a visit to Sri Lanka in April 2014, I dropped in at the Galleries of Sapumal Foundation in Colombo, containing over 300 paintings and drawings which trace the development of art in Sri Lanka from the 1920’s with its core collection consisting of works by Harry Pieris, Geoffrey Beling, George Claessen, Aubrey Collette, Justin Pieris Deraniyagala, Richard Gabriel, George Keyt, L.T.P. Manjusri, Ivan Peries and Lionel Wendt, all of who were the original member of the ’43 Group and laid the foundations for the development of modern art in Sri Lanka. To view such a vast collection of original masterpieces at such close quarters where I could almost feel and sense the movement of the brush strokes and imagine how the paintings were brought to life by these eminent artists, was a exhilarating experience.
